Leading innovations in refrigerants
In response to the ban on CFC and HCFC-based refrigerants (F-gas regulation), the industry is undertaking extensive research to introduce more environmentally acceptable alternatives to refrigerants used in the past. Daikin is at the forefront of the drive to find low Global Warming Potential (GWP) and/or natural refrigerants.
Daikin is already investigating refrigerants such as R32 and CO2, but also advises that decision makers should take into account the indirect CO2 emissions generated during the total lifecycle of a product and not only look at the GWP of the refrigerant. Depending on the application, the most efficient refrigerant option should be chosen.
For example, Daikin has developed a highly innovative VRV CO2, as an alternative to today’s refrigerant based systems, thus harnessing the environmental advantages of CO2, which has with the lowest possible Global Warming Potential, to create a safe and viable refrigerant.
