- How energy efficient and well insulated your home is
- The space available inside and outside your home
- Whether you want a simple boiler replacement or an entirely new heating system
If you are applying for RHI funding, you’ll need to have a Green Deal Assessment, get insulation if required, and select both an MCS accredited installer and an MCS certified renewable heating system.

Installing a heat pump (air-to-water) on domestic premises in England is considered to be Permitted Development, so installing a heat pump doesn't usually require planning permission as long as all limits and conditions are met.
To be eligible for the Renewable Heat Incentive, your chosen heat pump and installer must both be accredited by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).
A Daikin Altherma heat pump is easier to install than a ground source heat pump with less disruption to your home and garden. No groundworks or boreholes are needed making installation quicker (typically installation time is less than a week).
