5th Environmental Conference

Daikin Europe N.V. (09/01/2008)

Daikin Europe held its 5th Environmental Conference at its Brussels office on 30 and 31 October 2007.

Brussels at the heart of European environmental matters
Daikin Europe held its 5th Environmental Conference at its Brussels office on 30 and 31 October 2007. This year’s edition was extremely well attended with more than 50 representatives from Daikin Europe’s affiliates and Daikin Representation Offices, Daikin Europe’s ERD (Environment Readiness Department), as well as numerous senior management representatives from Daikin Europe N.V. and Daikin Industries Ltd. The latter’s presence was a confirmation of Daikin Europe’s key role within the group concerning environmental affairs. Brussels is indeed at the origin of all environmental legislation in Europe, which in turn has a major impact on global environmental policies.

Double objective
The two-day Environmental Conference had two objectives. On October 30, Daikin Europe organised workshops on specific environmental topics such as the implementation of the Regulation on certain fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-gases) as well as on consultation and awareness raising activities. In these workshops, Daikin Europe exposed the legal framework, Daikin’s views and action plans, and facilitated the exchange of best practices and experiences between Daikin Europe’s affiliates. On the second day, Daikin Industries Ltd. and Daikin Europe presented the group’s policy in view of the impending EU legislation, with the Daikin affiliates presenting their achievements and action plans for the future, each with their different accents according to the local situation.

Be a Company that leads in Taking Environmental Initiatives
Global energy resources will become scarcer in the near future, thus it is absolutely crucial for individuals and the industry to contribute to the sustainability of our environment. To this end, Daikin Industries Ltd. and Daikin Europe expressed their mutual commitment to further reductions in their emission levels. Both stated that Daikin in fact has already taken serious steps in this direction. The successful entry into the heating market with Altherma, Daikin’s innovative and highly energy efficient air-to-water heat pump system, the promotion of more energy-efficient products, and the efforts made in safely recovering refrigerants during maintenance and at end of life are key elements in Daikin's contributions as a socially responsible and environmentally caring company.

Time for action
In his closing speech, Frans Hoorelbeke, Daikin Europe’s Chairman, called upon all Daikin managers to take appropriate action in order to enforce its further environmental ambition. “Caring for and reducing our impact on the environment have become a top priority at Daikin. We want to be a company that leads in taking environmental initiatives, both in the high efficiency range such as our VRVIII, and in the heat pump market. Our ambition is also to be the leading consultants in energy solutions by helping our clients select the most energy efficient product,” said Frans Hoorelbeke. He concluded: “The environment should always be top of mind, and should be on the agenda of all our Dealer Meetings. Furthermore, we have to spot and report new trends and legislation, and strive towards the best possible balance between environment and business.”
