Altherma Air Source Heat Pump awarded microgeneration certification scheme (MCS) accreditation
(01/06/2009)
Altherma Air Source Heat Pump from Daikin has been approved under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS). As a certified product under MCS, Altherma will qualify for grant aid and householders can apply for a grant of up to £900.
The MCS gives consumers the guarantee that certified Microgeneration products and the installers of those products have conformed to a rigorous set of standards. The criteria for product certification include evaluation of manufacturing quality and operation performance, to ensure the certified products deliver the required levels of energy efficiency and therefore, running cost savings.
Current product certification applies to Altherma split range ERHQ006-016.
Renewable Energy Solution
Under the EU Directive on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources, voted on 17 December 2008, air source heat pumps are a recognised renewable energy solution. Altherma from Daikin is a market leading air source heat pump that uses renewable energy from the air around us. Energy for heating and hot water can be provided even at temperatures as low as -20°C by Altherma.
Our homes account for around 27% of the UK's carbon emissions, a major cause of climate change. Altherma is based on technically advanced low carbon technology that helps to:
Provide consumers with energy sources that use existing natural resources.
Contribute to the protection of future energy supply.
Contribute to a low carbon economy.
Reduce reliance on energy imports.
Help reduce fuel poverty by reducing the cost of energy.
Reduced Energy Costs and Carbon Emissions.
Altherma can reduce heating costs by up to 50% as well as reducing carbon emissions by a similar amount when compared to traditional fossil fuel boiler systems.
Other advantages of Altherma are:
• Compatible with underfloor heating, radiators and fan convectors.
• The system is extremely quiet.
• There is no need for flues, fuel lines or tank storage facilities.
• Maintenance requirements are low and inexpensive.
• Life time cost savings, based around its high efficiency, low maintenance and reduced fuel costs, are high compared to traditional boiler systems.
• Altherma trained MCS certified installers throughout the UK.
Information on the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS)
MCS is administered for The Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) by GemServe, and grant applications have to be made prior to any installation being undertaken.
As part of the scheme, applicants must use both certified MCS products and an approved MCS installer. The approved installer has to originate the application.
