Buenos Aires subway keeps its cool with VRV
Daikin Europe N.V. (25/04/2007)
Daikin Argentina has completed the first stage of a VRVll installation project for the subway line in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires.
Launch of phased project
Daikin Airconditioning Argentina S.A. has completed the first stage of a VRVll installation project for Metrovias S.A., the operator of the Urquiza Subway Line in the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires. In this initial phase, VRVll systems were installed in the passageways and administrative and ticket offices of the Florida and Carlos Pellegrini stations. As the work continues, a further 10 stations along the Urquiza Line will be fitted with VRV systems.
Preparations for the project, including thermodynamic inspections of the sites, were conducted by a team of local consultants and Daikin Argentina technicians. The team concluded that energy efficiency and optimal use of space were essential, as the area available for installing the units was severely limited. Restrictions for outdoor units were particularly demanding due to the requirement to keep public work activities to a minimum. These challenges made VRVII a clear choice for the project. Other factors influencing the selection included the availability of 32 HP (16 HP x 2 modules) – an ideal capacity for the project – and VRVll’s high COP, allowing the stations’ existing power supply to be used.
Centralised Network
Central control adapters, able to process all control and monitoring functions, have also been installed in the two stations. This work will be repeated in each of the stations along the line and eventually all will be connected via an intranet-based system with intelligent Touch Controllers. The Touch Controllers will provide centralised management of the overall system, as well as the ability to adjust the operation of each unit onsite using its individual remote control. The use of an intranet will also enable the monitoring and control of the VRV indoor units as well as other related devices such as air curtains.
