Daikin UK’s Recycling scheme has been shortlisted in the prestigious World Business Green Awards for the ‘Best Leadership Driving Change’ category.

green awardsDaikin UK’s Recycling scheme, an industry first initiative launched in preparation for the future environmental demands of the air conditioning industry, has been shortlisted in the prestigious World Business Green Awards for the ‘Best Leadership Driving Change’ category.

The awards, organised in association with INSEAD, one of the world’s leading graduate business schools and sponsored by CNN, are specifically designed to identify the best eco-companies in the world and champion the work they are doing.  Open to all companies in any industry across the globe, they recognise the best practices and initiatives taken on environmental issues.

Mark Dyer, marketing manager at Daikin UK, said: “More and more businesses are taking their environmental responsibilities seriously and changing the way they operate to help reduce the impact of climate change and global warming.

“Daikin’s Recycling scheme is one such initiative which goes beyond current legislation governing the sector, setting industry standards.  For installers, not only does the scheme remove the hassle of having to dispose of end of life air conditioning themselves, but it also helps give them a competitive advantage by improving their business credentials.  For end-users, the ultimate benefit of this service is the peace of mind that they are acting in an environmentally conscious way.”

Under Daikin’s Recycling scheme, air conditioning that has reached the end of its life, whatever the manufacturer, is collected from site and taken to an authorised WEEE recycler.  Here, the equipment is dismantled in such a way that any hazardous substances are destroyed and reprocessed, with up to 95% of the residual matter reclaimed for further use.

Concluded Dyer: “It is testament to Daikin’s environmental commitment and the dedication of our employees that our recycling scheme has been introduced way ahead of its time in the industry.  We our extremely proud of this and are delighted to have been shortlisted for such a high profile award.”

The World Business Green Awards take place at the end of this month at The Dorchester, Park Lane, London.
