£1 billion funding available

The Grant Scheme will offer £1bn of grant funding to support BEIS’ new mission and priorities: fighting coronavirus, backing business, unleashing innovation and tackling climate change. The £1 billion scheme is part of the Chancellor’s ‘Plan for Jobs 2020’ commitment to support the UK’s economic recovery from COVID-19, supporting up to 30,000 skilled jobs in the low carbon and energy efficiency sectors.

Which projects are eligible

The PSDS provides grants for public sector bodies to fund capital energy efficiency and heat decarbonisation projects. The scheme allows public sector bodies, central government departments and non-departmental public bodies in England only to apply for a grant to finance up to 100% of the costs of capital energy-saving projects that meet the scheme criteria and will deliver the following objectives:

  • Deliver stimulus to the energy efficiency and heat decarbonisation sectors, supporting jobs.
  • Deliver significant carbon savings within the public sector.

The Grant Scheme will also encourage green investment, supporting the Government’s net-zero and clean growth goals. It will reduce non-traded carbon emissions from the public sector by up to 0.1 MtCO2e/year and up to 0.5 MtCO2e over each of Carbon Budgets 4 and 5. This is equivalent to taking nearly 45,000 cars off the road.
