Purifying the air to combat COVID-19: this is our solution

Scientific studies have shown that the COVID-19 virus is much more contagious indoors than outdoors. A series of instructions has thus been formulated to combat the spread of the virus as effectively as possible. Thus, in addition to good ventilation, air purification can help reduce the risk of infection. Daikin air purifiers ensure an indoor climate that is three times purer, healthier and cleaner. The result: an indoors that is both more comfortable and safer for its inhabitants.

COVID-19: How to reduce the risks of contamination?

Like all viruses, bacteria and allergens, COVID-19 is mainly transmitted through the air. Hence the importance of ventilating rooms to extract stale air as much as possible – particularly air loaded with the virus – and to replace it with fresh air. If ventilation proves impossible, a good additional measure is to purify the air to limit the risk of viral transmission.

Of course, it is still important to respect the protective measures: wearing a face mask, washing your hands and social distancing.

How can I fight coronavirus with a Daikin air purifier?

In order to limit the transmission of viral particles as much as possible, it is advisable to purify the air to remove these particles or aerosols. Studies have shown that in terms of air purification to combat the spread of COVID-19, only HEPA filtration and electrostatic precipitation (electrically charging and collecting viral particles to destroy them using an electrostatic filter) are effective.

With the MCK55W and MC55W, Daikin’s new air purifiers, you’ll be able to rest easy. These devices use the technology of electrostatic precipitation: Streamer technology gives an electric charge to harmful agents, such as viruses, which are then captured by an electrostatic HEPA filter.

What is more, this Streamer technology subjects harmful agents to oxidative degradation: the Streamer generates a stable flow of electrons at high speed producing a kind of plasma discharge (much higher than a conventional plasma discharge). Another advantage of this technology is that the powerful oxidative degradation not only destroys and removes viral particles, but also bacteria, mould, allergens, dangerous chemical particles and bad odours. This means that Daikin air purifiers are also ideal for people with asthma or allergies. Caution: To operate optimally, an air purifier must perform two to five purifications per hour.

99.9% effective

A recent scientific study, conducted in collaboration with the University of Tokyo and Okayama University of Science, proves that Daikin’s Streamer technology inactivates more than 99.9% of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) in air after 3 hours of exposure under specific laboratory conditions.

In other words, our air purifiers make you safer, whether you’re at home or at work. Of course, proper installation and maintenance are essential for the effective operation of the device.
