Air-to-air split systems
From January 1, 2025, only products containing a refrigerant with a global warming potential (GWP) < 750 may be placed on the market for split systems with a charge below 3kg.
Daikin already offers a full range of R-32 split, Sky air and VRV systems
From January 1, 2029, only products containing a refrigerant with a GWP < 150 may be placed on the market for all split systems ≤ 12kW.
Daikin is investigating and developing a range of R-290 and R-454C systems. Find out more about our refrigerant outlook here.
From January 1, 2029, only products containing a refrigerant with a GWP < 750 may be placed on the market for all split systems > 12 kW.
Daikin already offers a full range of R-32 Sky air and VRV systems, as well as a R-744 (CO2) VRV system. Find out more about our refrigerant outlook here.
Self-contained systems
From January 1, 2027, only products containing a refrigerant with a GWP < 150 may be placed on the market for self-contained systems > 12kW and ≤ 50 kW
More information to be released soon
From January 1, 2030, only products containing a refrigerant with a GWP < 150 may be placed on the market for self-contained systems > 50 kW
More information to be released soon
Products with refrigerants with a higher GWP can still be sold, maintained and repaired for their full lifetime, as long as they were placed on the market before the date of the ban.
2030 review date
In 2030, there will be an evaluation by the EU Commission to determine whether the post-2030 product bans are technologically feasible. Depending on this report, amendments are still possible to bans taking effect after 2030. In the overviews above these arrows are marked in a lighter colour. More information will be available closer to the 2030 review date.
Frequently asked questions
The phase-down programme set out in the F-gas regulation essentially involves reducing the quantities of HFC refrigerants available on the market from January 1, 2025 and only applies to newly placed HFC refrigerants. This means that recycled and reprocessed HFC refrigerants are not affected by the new quota because they were already placed on the market at an earlier date.
HFO refrigerants are not affected by the phase down .
Information on the schedule:
- 2030: Review of whether the planned complete ban on newly marketed HFC refrigerants from 2050 is feasible.
- From 01.01.2050 (depending on the result of the review in 2040): Unrestricted ban.
Daikin, as a manufacturer, ensures that we only offer products that comply with the regulation.
No. The decisive factor here is the time at which the product was placed on the market. If the product was placed on the market before the ban came into force, it may still be installed and operated after the ban comes into force.
A product is F-gas compliant if it meets the requirements of the regulation. Different regulations apply depending on the refrigerant used, its global warming potential (GWP) and its application.
You can find out which refrigerants are permitted in which products, and when they will be prohibited in the product overview.
Safety exemption refers to a situation where, due to safety constraints at the site of operation, it is not possible to install a system that complies with certain regulations. In such cases, product bans may not be applicable.
