Modern Home Must-Haves: eco-friendly air source heat pumps

Today’s trends and insights on modern homes

What does a modern home look like to you?

In the 90s, it might have been salmon pink bathrooms and frilly curtains.

Today’s preferences include open-plan living spaces, triple glazed windows, and air conditioning. To see which true essentials people are looking for in modern homes, we at Daikin conducted extensive research amongst UK consumers and discovered the following results:

  • 81% believe environmentally-friendly features like a heat pump, EV charging points, and solar panels are essential.
  • 94% feel a responsibility to protect the environment for future generations.
  • 81% wish their homes were more eco-friendly.
  • Buildings account for 20% of the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions, with two-thirds from residential heating.
Many of the ‘modern home must haves’, like heat pumps, are thoughtfully designed and can be incorporated seamlessly into homes without compromising on style.

Going green can increase your home's value by 15%

Installing environmentally friendly heating and energy solutions in your property makes it more attractive to buyers and can increase its value. According to Rightmove, a property moving from an EPC rating of F to a C could increase its value by an average of 15%, or almost £56,267 when looking at the national average asking price.

Our data shows that there’s a green price premium on top of the local house price growth, when people sell their homes with green improvements. In the coming years, a home's energy efficiency rating will likely play an increasingly significant role in buying or renting decisions, given the substantial cost savings on energy bills and the added resale value.

Funding your change to an energy-efficient heat pump

Switching to a heat pump is more affordable than ever, thanks to various funding schemes. These schemes can cover a significant portion of the installation costs, making it a viable option for many homeowners. Find out more about available funding options.

Creating a calm, quiet home with a heat pump

The world is getting louder, and we all need a peaceful home to retreat to. Daikin's Altherma 3 H HT heat pump, the quietest high-temperature heat pump on the market, is now Quiet Mark certified. Enhanced with a double injection compressor and single fan, it operates at just 54 dB(A) – as quiet as a refrigerator.

Mythbusters: Setting the record straight on heat pumps

Still need convincing? There are many misconceptions about heat pumps. Let’s bust some myths!

Myth 1: People think they’re expensive. But thanks to government funding, they can now cost less than a standard boiler.

Myth 2: No, they’re really not noisy. Daikin heat pumps operate at around 60 decibels (similar to an electric toothbrush).

Myth 3: Are they large and unsightly? Not anymore. They’re more compact than ever and can be sited discreetly outside your home.

Myth 4: They’re not just for heating. Many heat pumps also provide cooling, offering year-round comfort.

Myth 5: Only suitable for new homes? Think again. Heat pumps can be integrated into virtually any property, old or new.

Myth 6: Maintenance really isn’t a big issue. Heat pumps simply require annual servicing, similar to boilers.

Myth 7: Worried they can’t cope with cold winters? Daikin heat pumps operate efficiently in temperatures as low as -25°C.
