EPDs and TM65 guidance for whole life carbon assessments

Reliable product data is essential for understanding the environmental impact of building systems. As the industry places greater focus on whole life carbon, designers and consultants need clear information to support embodied carbon assessments.

Daikin provides transparent environmental data through Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and TM65 embodied carbon calculations. Together, these resources help make it easier to include HVAC systems in whole-life carbon analysis and sustainability reporting.

EPDs: Verified lifecycle data

Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) provide independently verified environmental data for a product across defined lifecycle stages, such as raw material extraction, manufacturing and end-of-life treatment.

This information allows consultants and engineers to incorporate verified product data into lifecycle assessments and building sustainability frameworks.

TM65: Embodied carbon calculations

Where EPDs are not yet available, TM65 provides a recognised method for estimating embodied carbon.

Developed by CIBSE, TM65 provides a consistent method for estimating the embodied carbon of building services products using available product information. This helps ensure systems such as HVAC equipment can be included in whole-life carbon assessments.

EPDs and TM65 working together

EPDs and TM65 serve different purposes but complement each other.

EPDs provide detailed, independently verified lifecycle data. TM65 provides a recognised method for estimating embodied carbon where EPDs are not available, helping support more complete embodied carbon assessments.

By providing both EPDs and TM65 guidance, Daikin aims to give designers and consultants clear, reliable information to support specification decisions and embodied carbon reporting.
