By investing in young people through our apprenticeship programmes, we’re helping the next generation gain the skills to lead the charge toward a low-carbon future.

As National Apprenticeship Week shines a spotlight on the importance of apprenticeships, Daikin is taking the lead in tackling the UK’s shortage of green skills.

Bridging the green skills gap

The UK is facing a critical shortage of green skills, particularly in areas like low-carbon heating and sustainable engineering. With ambitious climate goals on the horizon, the need for skilled professionals in these sectors has never been greater.

That’s why Daikin is stepping up to meet this challenge by providing specialised training programmes that empower our young people to contribute to a greener future.

Engineer Apprenticeship Programme

One of Daikin’s flagship initiatives is its Engineer Apprenticeship Programme, which takes on five candidates each year. This exciting programme is designed to provide hands-on experience and industry-leading training in sustainable heating technologies. Apprentices spend three years learning onsite from experienced engineers, developing advanced technical skills and gaining valuable industry insights.

Each year, this programme empowers a new cohort of apprentices to take on real-world responsibilities while benefitting from the mentorship of Daikin’s experienced team. Graduates of the programme often go on to take key roles within the company - a real testament to the programme’s success.

Low Carbon Heating Technician Apprenticeship Programme

Another exciting initiative is the 2025 Low Carbon Heating Technician Apprenticeship Programme, developed in partnership with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA).

This trailblazing course is rolling out for the first time this year, with participants becoming among the first in the UK to achieve this qualification. Open to applicants from the Greater Manchester region, the programme aims to cultivate the next generation of skilled professionals who will lead the way in sustainable heating solutions.

Success stories

Daikin’s apprenticeship programmes have already paved the way for numerous success stories.

Meet Lucy

Lucy joined the apprenticeship programme in September 2024, and is already breaking down barriers. “As engineering is predominantly a male-dominated sector, I feel I’ve become a lot more confident in myself and my ability to carry out work on site. I have also learnt so much in the last four months. Things are starting to click into place, so when I’m on-site, I can really get involved with the tasks at hand.”

Meet Alfie

Alfie, who also completed his apprenticeship in October 2024, was guided by supportive mentors who instilled a strong work ethic. Now a Junior Service Engineer, Alfie is excited to take on greater responsibilities while continuing to grow within Daikin’s collaborative culture. “My apprenticeship was a three-year journey primarily spent onsite learning from engineers.”

Meet Ethan

Ethan completed his Daikin apprenticeship in October 2024, earning the title of Junior Service Engineer. Now tackling independent tasks and honing advanced skills alongside seasoned professionals, Ethan reflects on his three-year journey.  Ethan is now taking on additional training with Daikin in order to progress even further in his career.

Expanding opportunities in 2025

In addition to the Engineer and Low Carbon Heating Technician Apprenticeship Programmes, Daikin is launching new opportunities in finance and marketing. The 2025 Finance Apprentice Programme (applications have now closed) offers aspiring professionals a chance to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic industry. New Marketing Apprenticeships will also be available soon, broadening the scope of Daikin’s commitment to fostering diverse talent.

Daikin’s apprenticeship programmes are not just about training individuals; they’re about building a sustainable future. Whether you’re interested in engineering, low-carbon heating, finance, or marketing, Daikin provides the tools and mentorship needed to succeed in a rapidly changing world. We’re proud to be making a difference.
