Government support to make homes warmer, greener and cheaper to run

The government’s Warm Homes Plan is a new national initiative to make homes across England warmer, greener, and more affordable to run. It offers up to £30,000 per household to help with:

  • Improving insulation, glazing, and ventilation
  • Installing low-carbon heating systems like heat pumps

This funding aims to lift over a million homes out of fuel poverty by 2030, and it's already rolling out in areas across the country.

Support for heat pumps

The plan backs heat pump installation in a big way. Here’s how:

  • Boiler Upgrade Scheme: Get up to £7,500 towards an air-source or ground-source heat pump.
  • New technologies included: A consultation is underway to expand the scheme to cover air-to-air heat pumps, heat batteries and flexible finance options.
  • Installer training: Funding is being increased to train thousands of new certified installers, helping more homeowners switch to heat pumps with confidence.

Planning just got easier

Recent changes to planning rules in England have made it easier to install heat pumps. The previous requirement for planning permission if a heat pump was within one metre of a property boundary has now been removed, clearing the way for more straightforward installations.
