Find out more about the Scottish Government’s grant and interest-free loan scheme, designed to make your home warmer and cheaper to run.

The aim of the Home Energy Scotland (HES) scheme is to help homeowners make their homes more energy-efficient.

Homeowners in Scotland can apply for a grant as well as an interest-free loan. A rural uplift is also available to provide extra support to rural and island homes, where it may be more expensive to install home improvements.

Homeowners can apply for the following funding to install a new heat pump at their property. It’s broken down into two elements of grant and loan:

1. Grant: Grant funding for new heat pumps is up to £7,500 (or £9,000 if the household qualifies for the rural uplift).

2. Loan: The remainder of the funding requested can be taken up as an optional interest-free loan, up to a maximum of £7,500.

The Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan covers a wide variety of heat pumps, including air source to water, ground source to water or water source to water.
