Holistic sustainability and low energy bills
Joseph’s home is also equipped with rooftop solar PV panels and an energy storage battery system. Together with the new Daikin heat pump system, this combination means he now pays close to nothing for his heating and hot water.
“My old gas bills were over £120 a month,” Joseph explains. “Now, thanks to my Daikin system, the solar panels and battery, I’m often paying nothing at all. Even on the coldest days, it’s just pennies.”
Joseph is also a big fan of the Daikin’s system’s intuitive connectivity, fully enabled by the Daikin Onecta app. “I love how easy the Daikin Onecta app makes it to control my heating - whether I’m at home or away. The voice control is a game-changer, and I can keep an eye on my energy use. It’s like having a whole climate system in my pocket! It’s a real big plus for me.”
Darren adds: “It’s the perfect integration. The solar charges the battery during the day, and the stored energy powers the heat pump through the night. It’s clean, efficient and future-ready.”
Support that made it possible
The project was made affordable with the help of Scottish Government funding of a £7,500 grant and Jospeh put approximately £7000 himself to the project. “I was happy to make the investment,” Joseph says.
“This isn’t just about savings - it’s about living in a way that reflects my values. I didn’t want to wait until gas is phased out. I wanted to make that change now.” Darren believes this mindset is increasingly common. “More and more people want to transition, but they just need the right advice from installers who understand systems like Daikin’s.”
