More information about heat pumps

Yes. A hybrid heat pump can be suitable for a variety of houses, including new builds, apartments, renovations, or existing properties for boiler replacement.

As is always the case, the best heat pump will depend on individual circumstances. New builds are often designed to accommodate a heat pump alone, but in your home renovation or upgrade, you might require the flexibility of a hybrid heating system. For example, if you need extra capacity due to renovation work, you don't have space to add a hot water tank, or if you want to keep your existing radiators.

Hybrid heat pump installation is quick and easy. It comprises an outdoor and an indoor unit, combining a gas-condensing unit and a hydraulic heat pump module. The indoor unit can be installed in a cupboard or on a wall using a standard mounting plate. The outdoor unit can be installed anywhere, including on the terrace, in the garden, or on the building's roof or exterior.

To connect to indoors, an H hybrid heat pump outdoor unit has water piping and the R Hybrid connects with R-32 refrigerant piping.

Yes. A hybrid heat pump uses a combination of a heat pump and a gas boiler to achieve optimum energy efficiency, depending on the outdoor temperature and energy prices.

The most efficient operating mode is automatically selected. For example, using just the heat pump for milder temperatures (for example, 7°C outside) and switching to hybrid mode during colder weather (such as -5°C outside), with the boiler capacity added when needed.

A hybrid heat pump is a combination of a gas boiler and a heat pump. It automatically selects the most efficient operation mode, i.e., whether to use the heat pump, the boiler or both, based on prices of electricity and gas and outdoor temperature, resulting in efficient energy management and lower energy bills.

Yes, because a hybrid heat pump automatically selects the most efficient operation mode based on energy prices and outdoor temperature. It therefore results in optimum energy management and lower energy bills.

There are five parameters that define the operational efficiency of hybrid heat pumps:

  • Electricity price
  • Gas price
  • Outdoor temperature
  • Heat pump efficiency
  • Hot water temperature

When working in heat pump mode, the system is powered by renewable energy extracted from the air and can achieve up to A++ energy efficiency. It is particularly suitable for moderate temperatures.

Hybrid mode works during cooler seasons with temperatures around 1°C. It combines heat pumps and gas boilers as heating sources, also operating on renewable energy.

When capacity is required the hybrid heat pump will switch to gas consumption only, as gas mode is the best option for cold weather conditions of around -10°C.
